Alimony in Illinois is called Maintenance, and in early 2019, the maintenance calculations changed.

Maintenance is one of the most contested areas in a divorce. That’s because maintenance is not an automatic right. It’s not an automatic thing given to one of the divorcing parties. Also maintenance, if awarded, can be for a portion of the time of the length of the marriage, or for the rest of the life of the person receiving the maintenance.

How incomes are calculated greatly impacts maintenance calculations. Many law firms calculated incomes differently, and this adds to the overall maintenance argument.
